Episode 1 Rangimarie Hunia introduces the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei development, designed to provide vibrant and dynamic community based housing for hapū members in Ōrākei. COO Kate Healy discusses the design requirements for the development including the need for affordability and long term intergenerational design thinking.

Episode 2

Stevens Lawson Architects explain how their design reflects Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s desire to not only provide housing, but creating a unique sense of community. Hapū members share their excitement for the future and what living in the development will mean to them.​

Episode 3

Designs for the houses are finalised, resource consent is granted and earthworks begin. Jeremy Veza of Bluerock Civil explains their sustainable approach to earthworks. The team responds to the challenges of keeping the development within budget.

Episode 4

Construction contractors are engaged, but costing has meant changes for the project’s design, creating challenges in balancing affordability against quality. Floor slabs are laid and walls start rising. Project Manager Chrisco Oelofse discusses the advantages of building terraced housing over detached housing.

Episode 5

​Wet weather creates difficult conditions on the site, pushing the project behind budget and schedule. Roofs go on the first homes and interior works begin. COO Kate Healy explains the cutting edge solar technology being integrated into the development.

Episode 6

Residents move into the first homes, however construction defects mean some remediation works are required. Dave and Rewa Harriman share their impressions of their new home. Urban designer Sarah Coady discusses the design merits of the project including its sustainability features. COO Kate Healy reflects on their learnings from the project.
