Solar access for subdivision - NSW Guide

Published by Sustainable Energy development Authority (Australia)

The Solar Access for Lots [SAL] Guide is a step-by-step tool, designed to assist subdividers detail solar access ‘zones’ on subdivision plans. This process determines designs that
maximise solar access into living areas and living spaces of dwellings built on residential Greenfield subdivisions. Rather than control lot size directly, the tool seeks to provide
guidance on the placement of a dwelling on a lot to ensure solar access.

The tool encourages dwelling shapes to be selected for certain lot orientations to allow good solar access to that dwelling, without compromising lot yields or an increase in lot size. It is based on common dwelling footprints and heights, yet has the fl exibility to accommodate other variations.
